Pure Puget Sound raw local honey from Seattle, Skagit County, Pierce County and more

Pure Puget Sound - Our new honey!

How do you say, "sweet"? We say Pure Puget Sound!

It's been a dream of ours to launch a new honey line that would provide our customers with a more affordable, high-quality honey with transparent sourcing, and also give us farmers some buffer from the whims of Mother Nature. After years of delays, it's here!

We're so excited to introduce you to our Pure Puget Sound honey line. Pure Puget Sound honey is sourced by us directly from local commercial beekeepers living and working here in the Puget Sound region. These beekeepers get most of their money from pollination services and are often limited to selling their honey on the commodities marketplace, where they make very little and their honey is mixed with honey from all over the country, as well as honey from China, Brazil, and wherever else the big packing companies can get a deal (and, in some (illegal) cases, corn syrup. Yuck!).

One of the things we love about the Pure Puget Sound line is that we get to both offer these beekeepers a better price for their honey than they would get otherwise and also give you a better final retail price than you would otherwise get for real, local honey.

So what's different about Pure Puget Sound honey as compared to our own honey?

  1. Obviously, it's not from our bees. We buy the honey straight out of the beekeeper's extractor, strain it if necessary (most people don't want chunks of wax and propolis in their honey), and put it into bottles. And yes, we'll cream it sometimes too (Pure Puget Sound creamed honey coming soon).
  2. It's not as local as our honey. But then, what is? Pure Puget Sound honey is labeled by the county that the bees were foraging in, rather than the neighborhood, farm, city, etc. That's still way more local than almost anything else out there!
  3. It costs less! You may not know this, but one big reason that the big beekeepers can sell their honey for less is because they make most of their money pollinating other crops. Basically everything that you buy at the grocery store subsidizes a little bit of the commodity honey price! Of course, this honey is way better than commodity level, but you still benefit from the subsidized economy that commodity honey receives.
  4. It will be in stores? Soon! In fact, we delivered our first order of Pure Puget Sound honey last Saturday, to Bloom Bistro & Grocery in Georgetown.
We're releasing the Pure Puget Sound line with our Skagit County Blackberry Blossom and Wildflower honeys, available in 1/2 lb and 1 lb glass jars, and 1 lb squeeze bottles. We'll be adding one or more Pierce County honeys in the near future as well, and then expanding to other Puget Sound counties as we find beekeepers that we trust to expand our Pure Puget Sound brand with.
We've been growing Rainy Day Bees for nearly 15 years now, and we can tell you that farming is hard! Production is at the mercy of the elements, and small-scale beekeepers like us have a hard time making a product that is affordable (so we focus on making one that is great!).

Thanks for following along on our journey!
